Future Abes: Lincoln welcomes Lyon first graders for a day of discovery

Students at Lincoln High School brought learning to life by hosting a special “My Future Me” experience for first graders from Mary Lyon Elementary, giving them a glimpse into their future as Lincoln Abes.

The visit was designed and led by Lincoln’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) students across multiple programs. Baking and Pastry students prepared sugar cookies, FCCLA students added decorative touches, and Teach 253 students planned and organized the event experience from start to finish.

When the buses arrived, first graders were greeted by the Lincoln Abe mascot before heading inside for a morning of activities. Students explored the school on a mini tour, stepping into spaces where they may one day learn.

The highlight of the day was cookie decorating, where students chose from a variety of colorful sprinkles, many shaped like graduation caps, stars, and trophies, encouraging them to imagine their future accomplishments. Afterward, students spent time coloring custom pages featuring both Mary Lyon Elementary and Lincoln High School.

The experience extended beyond the classroom. Engineering and photography students contributed by designing event signage, creating “Future Abe Class of 2037” keychains, and capturing the day through photos.

Each student left with a decorated cookie, a personalized keepsake, and a sense of excitement about what lies ahead. Through hands-on activities and student-led engagement, “My Future Me” helped these Future Abes begin to see themselves walking the halls of Lincoln High School.
